Bioidentical Hormones: The FDA’s 2019 Attack On Your Right To Choose
The FDA and big pharma are attacking bioidentical hormones. They are attacking your right to choose since it does not benefit their profits. A one-size-fits-all product is their goal and lobbying the FDA and congress is their path to achieve it.
Bioidentical Hormones vs Commercially Available Pharmaceuticals
Unlike typical prescription medications produced by big pharma, bioidentical hormones are compounded just for you. Bioidentical hormones are, as the word implies, exactly like those naturally occurring in your body. They may be plant based, animal based, or produced in a lab but at the end of the day, they’re a match for what the human body recognizes.
FDA-approved medications may contain an active ingredient of bioidentical hormone(s), but they will not be a custom dose and may contain excipients such as fillers, dies, preservatives, binders, and other materials. A compounded bioidentical hormone will contain the exact dose recommended for the patient and is usually in some type of capsule made from a natural substance.
The Attack by big pharma and the FDA
Document FDA-2015-N-0030-0001 contains the regulations being considered.
The FDA is currently considering policies that make it harder to get prescriptions filled for bioidentical hormones, and worst case would outlaw most compounded hormones. Big pharma pushes these regulations because bioidentical compounded hormones compete with their synthetic products and one-size-fits-all mentality.
I am not advocating that big pharma be banned from providing their products to the market. I have benefited from western medicine and pharmaceuticals and so have many of my family and friends. My concern is that big pharma is pushing to remove the patients right to choose.
