Natural Seasonal Allergy Remedies for Kids: Vitamins, Saline Rinse and More

Natural Seasonal Allergy Remedies for Kids

Natural Seasonal Allergy Remedies for Kids and Mom Too

Need some natural seasonal allergy remedies for kids? Are runny noses, puffy eyes, and snot hanging out at your house? It’s that time of year, the season is changing and with that comes a whole host of new pollens and allergens in the air.  My family has experienced the onset of flared allergies many times.  I am always looking for ways to boost my kid’s immune systems and stay out of the doctor’s office.

1 in 5 kids experience allergies according to WebMD.  Signs can include itchy eyes, sneezing, nasal congestion to name a few.  There are some easy ways to prepare for those seasonal allergies.

Vitamins for Seasonal Allergies

VITAMIN C

One great way to boost your immune system is to load up on vitamin C.  I give my kids Nordic Natural Vitamin C Gummies. These gummies provide immune system support and antioxidant protection for kids ages 4+ in a yummy, tangerine flavor.  The benefit of being on Vitamin C early is it prevents histamine formation.  Vitamin C promotes the immune system, prevents infections, and shortens the duration of illnesses.  Nordic Natural Vitamin C Gummies have 250mg of vitamin C per serving and NO artificial flavoring, coloring or preservatives, and are also 100% vegetarian, pectin based and gelatin free.

Probiotics for Seasonal Allergies

PROBIOTIC

Another key to combat allergies is a healthy gut.  Yes, you see gut health everywhere but there’s a good reason because it impacts your child’s immune system.  The microbes living in the gut have a lot of influence on immune health.  Probiotics used in the treatment of allergies has already been established. My kids take a Nordic Natural Probiotic Gummies for Kids each day.  It is packed fulled of “good” gut bacteria for digestive and immune health.  There are 1.5 billion live cultures plus prebiotic fiber in a berry punch flavor.  No artificial flavoring, coloring, sweeteners or preservatives for the win.  On top of a good probiotic, Nortic Natural Probiotic Gummies for Kids, like I give my kids, make sure your children eat plenty of fiber-rich foods that feed gut microbes, like fruit and veggies.

Saline Rinse for Seasonal Allergies

NOSE RINSE

At any sign of allergy irritation, we begin using the NeilMed® Sinus Rinse -Pediatric Kit (or NeilMed® Sinus Rinse kit for adults).  According to the manufacturer,

“NeilMed® SINUS RINSE is an easy squeeze bottle system that allows you to deliver the saline solution with positive pressure to clean the nasal passages thoroughly, while maintaining your head in an upright position. You have complete control of the pressure and volume of solution, ensuring a gentle, soothing and therapeutic experience. Daily rinsing is safe and will keep your nasal passages clean, healthy and open.”

If you have any sign of Nasal Allergies, Hay Fever, Nasal Stuffiness, Sinus Pressure, Postnasal Drip or Congestion, and even Nasal Irritation, NeilMed® Sinus Rinse is for you.  These great kits come with one pre-filled rinse and additional premixed packets for more rinses.  Additional rinses must be mixed with Distilled Water Only.  Premixed Packets of USP Grade Sodium Chloride & Sodium Bicarbonate (Purity level 99% or higher).  Please follow manufacturer’s instructions precisely.

The NeilMed® Sinus Rinse is so easy to use, that with supervision, my 7- and 9-year old’s rinse their own noses. The advantage of the nose rinse is it soothes the nasal passage with its pH Balanced & Isotonic rinse; irrigating any unwanted pollens and allergens.  The rinse moisturizes and provides good nasal hygiene, all while giving you peace of mind that it is preservative, iodine, drug, gluten, BPA, and Latex Free. When allergens are impacting us most, we will use the NeilMed® Rise twice a day.

Other Ideas for Seasonal Allergies

Some other easy ways to rid your home of allergens include:

  • Taking off shoes at the door
  • Showering and washing your hair before bedtime
  • Limiting the number of stuffed animals in your child’s room as they hold dust and pet dander
  • Not having the family pet sleep with your children

If you child’s sinus become congested, a few ways to help is warm compresses, warm showers, and sleeping in an elevated position.  If their nasal passages are not completely blocked, you can use the NeilMed® Sinus Rinse, but if no air is passing through the nasal cavity do not use the rinse.

These are a few ways we fight back against allergens with our kids.  Drop me a note below of anything you have been successful with.
