Maintain Your Weight for the 2019 Holiday Season!

Tips to not add pounds during the 2019 holidays until you start that 2020 weight loss diet.

Maintain Your Weight for the 2019 Holiday Season

Like most women I am thinking about my weight.  I know I need to lose a good chunk of weight, but I also know starting right before the holidays is only setting myself up for failure.  So, I made a list of things to remind myself over the next couple of weeks, so I don’t add another holiday 10+ pounds! Try these tips to maintain your weight for the 2019 holiday season.

  • Everyday is a new day! Just because I feel off the wagon yesterday or had one too many glasses of wine, TODAY I can start again.  Sometimes it’s a minute by minute decision and sometimes longer.  Give myself grace and start again.
  • Begin with a good breakfast. My body stays full longest when I start my day with protein.  Eggs, rice cake with peanut butter, or even a Kind® protein bar.  When I only eat cereal or other carb breakfast options, I get the 10am munchies.
  • Plan out little snacks. I make a portion of almonds, or pretzels or fruit I take with me so I am not temped to stop and get something that might not be as healthy or low calorie.
  • Drink a full glass of water before each meal.
  • When eating a meal at home or somewhere I serve myself, I try to use a salad plate and not a dinner plate. This forces me to make smaller servings and I usually will think before I get up and get seconds.  If your really temped to have seconds, drink a full glass of water and then see if you can pass.
  • Don’t deny yourself all holiday treats. It’s ok to have that piece of pie or holiday candy just make a small slice or have just 2 or 3 bites of the dessert.  When I am out with my husband, we tend to share desserts because we really don’t need a whole one.
  • When there is a whole table of tasty options spread out pick three and put a small portion on your plate.  After all, its tasting everything that leaves you with that stuffed feeling.
  • Another way to reduce calories is to just have one drink instead of many. It’s so easy to sit with friends that are pouring wine and next thing you know your group has finished off several bottles of wine.  Have that glass of wine.  Take your time and savor the glass.  I find it easier I am not walking around or holding my glass to stretch it out.  Put your glass down between sips and enjoy those you are with.
  • Take a few minutes to exercise. You don’t have to walk a mile or run a marathon, but every little movement helps.   A few easy ways to get in some activity include not parking in the closest spot (after all you can spread some holiday cheer letting someone else get that closer space, it’s ok to walk). Do some calf raises while brushing your teeth or squats while blow drying your hair.  Walk around the block.  Every little bit helps.

These are just a few things I am going to do this season. Hopefully these tips help you maintain your weight for the 2019 holiday season. Share what works for you in the comments below.
